Artist Feature: Bruce Larsen
Breathtaking design for home living.
In a small studio on the coast of Fairhope, Alabama, artist Bruce Larsen breathes new life into forgotten fragments of the past. What others see as scrap, he sees as potential — twisted metal, rusted gears, and discarded machinery reborn as powerful sculptures that pulse with movement and meaning. Each piece carries a story of renewal, capturing the strength, grace, and resilience that define both art and humanity.
Larsen’s work speaks to something deeply universal: the beauty that emerges from rebuilding, the courage to reimagine what’s been lost, and the creative spirit that connects us all. Honored as the 2009 Sport Artist of the Year – Sculptor by the United States Sports University and its American Sport Art Museum & Archives (ASAMA), his sculptures stand as symbols of endurance and transformation — reminders that even the most broken things can rise again, stronger than before.

Meet Nancy Raia
Nancy serves as Artist in Residence at the United States Sports University in Daphne, Al, after serving as Community Outreach Director of the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, AL since 2001 bringing the arts to the community. For her work in the community, she has received numerous awards including the Gulf Guardian Award for her environmental art lessons, the Mobile Arts Councils Educator Award and the AL Art Educator of the Year. She has taught art classes to students from ages 3-103 and she also brings art to senior living facilities, Veterans, works with students through art at the S/W Regional School for the Deaf and Blind and provides private and group art lessons for those with disabilities and chronic illnesses. She is often asked to be a guest lecturer at local universities on “art as a therapeutic tool” and presents her innovative lessons to teachers at conferences. She holds a degree in Finance from Emory University, but her jump into the arts began 33 years ago in California, when she realized that elementary schools didn’t have art programming. Her work has been funded by grants for over 29 years.
Nancy has studied under a variety of teachers at the Eastern Shore Art Center and works in acrylics, watercolor, pen & ink and photography. She is a member of the Eastern Shore Camera Club, Bay Area Art Educators, AL Art Educators Association and the National Art Educators Association. She has been in regional art shows and won various awards, and her work is held by collectors across the country, in private residences and corporate offices and hospitals. Working as an illustrator for two books was also a fun learning curve!
Nancy has traveled throughout the region as a visiting artist, bringing communities together with a unique art vision; a belief that art brings us together, celebrates our differences and honors the individual.
